4-meter socket/meter main
Purpose: Designed to hold four individual electric meters in a single, compact enclosure.
Application: Commonly used for multi-tenant buildings such as apartments, duplexes, and small commercial spaces.
Features: Includes a main breaker or lug section for the total service, with separate meter sockets and tenant circuit breakers for each unit. They are available in various amperage ratings (e.g., 200A, 400A).
Wiring: A 4-jaw configuration refers to the number of terminals in each meter socket for the incoming power, neutral, and two hot wires.
4S meter
Purpose: A type of transformer-rated meter used for high-amperage single-phase services that are too large for standard meters.
Application: Used when the main service amperage is greater than what a standard meter can handle, often in commercial or industrial settings.
Features: Uses two current transformers (CTs) to measure the large current, making it a 3-wire service with two phase wires and a neutral.
Smart/Type 4 meter
Purpose: A modern digital meter that measures and records energy consumption at frequent intervals (e.g., every 5 minutes).
Application: Becoming the standard for residential energy services in some areas, like Australia, where they are often called "type 4" meters.
Features: Offers detailed energy usage data and can be used for both one-way and two-way communication with the utility.
